mi mi mi mi mi mi

This is the trimester that never ends,
it just goes on and on my friend.
Someone opened saltines not knowing what it was,
and they'll continue munching saltines forever just because
this is the trimester that never ends...

A brief interruption

Since this blog is supposed to be about my pregnancy and all, I thought I'd mention that we had a doctor's appointment last night. We got to hear the heartbeat and the doctor said that everything sounds/feels great! Neither of those sentences appropriately conveys my excitement, but oh well. I'm eating rice for dinner, so it's only fitting that my blog also be bland.

I also told my work today. I typed out a little work plan entitled: Danger Mouse's Pregnancy Work Plan. My boss looked at it, read it out loud, and then asked: "Wait. Does this mean you're pregnant?" FYI, the second line of the document said: Due Date: 3/18/07. Heehee. And he has four kids... But, everyone at work was very excited for me, and they said that for the first couple of months, as an alternative to paying for child care, I could bring the baby to the office with me!!! (I know that's just because they want me there working, but hey, it's still a great deal.) This is after my six weeks post-delivery that I have off, and I got a raise too! Please note that if the baby has colic as I did, neither of us will be going to the office.

So, all in all, I've had a wonderful two days. :)

And, Chris helped me remember what we did the rest of the time in Munich, so I promise that is coming up soon!

After an attempted delay...

What I Did on My Summer Vacation...

Day 1:
Planes and Automobiles... somewhere in there we crossed multiple time zones, bringing us to the actual day 1 upon our late arrival in Frankfurt, where we ran to make out next flight, which had of course changed gates, so we ran a little more. I had absolutely no problem sleeping from Frankfurt to Munich, except for that turbulence bit. I'd never actually heard a person scream on a plane before!

So... we arrive in Munich. After picking up our rental car, we realize that Chris left the map and the directions to our hotel on our kitchen table. Do we ask for directions? Nooooo, we simply drive around and get lost in Dachau before finding a map so we can get back to the airport.

(I'm trying to make a soundtrack to go with the story lest some find it boring or uniteresting, in which case, said people could also stop reading. so nyah.)

Eventually we find our hotel and nap for a bit before going to the Italian restaurant next door, where I had yummy gnocchi and a banana split. Then back to bed.

Day 2:
In Which We Learn How to Read German Road Signs... which are mostly in English, but don't really have exit numbers, but rather, you just keep going to towards the town you need. Anyway, we drove into Munich, ate lunch and walked all over the place... Marienplatz... Altes and Neues Rathouse, a lot of little shops... then we came back home. Our plan was to go to the English Gardens, but it kept raining whenever we walked in that direction, and then our parking ran out. I did buy a swatch watch with little squirrels running all over with acorns!!!

More days to follow - I seriously cannot remember what we did for two out of the ten days, I'll ask Chris tonight! :)

i'm bored and just not ready to write about my trip yet...

Ooooh - I also wanted to do this. I stole it from Stu: http://stunewsandphotos.blogspot.com/

Five Weird Things About Myself

1. When I pack up stuffed animals for moving purposes, I poke holes in the boxes so they can breathe.
2. I can do the worm. lol - no, not right now.
3. When I was young, I ate sugar cubes and brown sugar as snacks. My poor parents!
4. I don't eat cute animals - i.e. deer, baby cow, rabbit... etc.
5. I really like to peel things - like paint, wallpaper, those sticky globules they put on advertisements in magazines...

Prelude to a trip

Ah, before I recount my travels to munich and the surroundings of bavaria, there are a few items I must point out.

Exhibit 1:
I love to go on vacation. My husband, on the other hand, prefers trips. For anyone who cannot identify the difference, I like to lay on my butt in the sun and read. And eat. And possibly stroll down to water (lake, river, ocean, pool) and go swimming. My husband likes to run around like a maniac trying to see everything there is to see and to find all these "secret" local places that he might just be making up.

Anyway, that being said, I agreed to go on this "trip" because we both know it will be the last time for a few years that we may be able to run around being somewhat irresponsible by ourselves.

Exhibit 2:
The Zofran worked! Thanks to all who sent along motion/morning sickness remedies. I've been taking the Flintstones vitamins, which i didn't like the taste of when I was a kid, so one can only imagine the gagging faces I make now. But I can deal with slightly fruity tasting chalk for a minute each day much better than I can deal with continuous dry-heaving. By the way, Chris did offer me a beer on the trip... at which point, I looked at him and said, seriously? He caught on quickly and expressed the proper embarrasment.

Exhibit 3:
I need to practice my German. Although it is not bad (for an American, I guess), every time I tried to order something from a German menu they asked me if I wanted an English one. Grrr.

I think that's about it for the prelude... it's going to take me a couple of days to update with the rest of the trip.... I have to remember when/where everything happened. Until then, tschuss!

Whew!

So... it's been an interesting couple of days. I took a trip to the health food store to pick up some ginger candies in the hopes that they would calm my stomach. I found them, with the help of a woman who worked there, who also proceeded to show me every item they had that contained ginger. After it was discovered that I am pregnant, she went on to tell me that the pre-natal vitamins my doctor prescribed for me are full of garbage and that I should take theirs instead. Then she went to tell me some miracle stories about how they have helped (not cured) people with cancer and other various ailments. All in all, it was slightly overwhelming. But, I am going back today to pick up ginger tablets to take to Germany with me. The candies didn't really help (I ate about 10 yesterday), but I'm hoping the tablets will be a bit more... forceful. Also, I think I'm going to try their all-natural remedy for morning sickness. I've lost some weight, which wouldn't haven't been healthy even if I wasn't pregnant, so at this point I'm willing to try (almost) anything!

Also, I feel really bad for anyone who sits near me on the plane because I have motion sickness to begin with. I think I might call the airline to warn them, and to request a vegetarian meal because airplane meat is nothing short of heinous.

Anyway, if anyone has any morning sickness remedies that have worked for them, shoot them my way - I would LOVE to try them!

Just one more note... I've been slightly more cranky lately. I know it's the hormones, and I shouldn't really say cranky, because I've been able to cut off any obscenities before they start gushing. But I've been able to stick up for myself and speak my point of view, which is very new to me, and it feels good.

Okay, another note... ("don't stop him, he's rolling" - guess the movie!) I've been working on my brother's 5-year anniversay gift to his wife, which keeps crashing my Photoshop because it's huge. He is having a custom puzzle made for her, so he gave me all these pictures from their wedding and family members to make a collage of and it's coming out really nicely. That makes me happy.
